Favorite Project:
The Market Place at Christiana
Why: I enjoy designing and planning wetland mitigation projects in which the goal is to maximize its value as wildlife habitat. This particular project involved producing a plan for 6 created wetlands and 2 upland habitat enhancement areas. It was my favorite project because I was involved in each of the many steps involved in selecting the mitigation and enhancement areas (including wildlife and vegetative surveys of the property, characterizing the current soil and hydrology conditions of potential mitigation areas, producing an Environmental Impact Assessment report, and coordination with county committees). It was a great experience and I look forward to monitoring the success of these areas in the future.
Education:
B.S. in Environmental and Forest Biology from S.U.N.Y. Environmental Science and Forestry (2001)
M.S. in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Delaware (2006)
Previous Work Experience:
Virginia Tech and Army Corps of Engineers Piping Plover Project – Westhampton Beach, NY
Captured, banded, and obtained standard measurements of piping plover adults and chicks, and performed Habitat Assessment of foraging and nesting habitats, 2002
University of Virginia Amphibian Monitoring Project – George Washington National Forest, VA
Monitored amphibian populations within forested wetlands using mark-recapture methods, 2003
University of Delaware/DNREC Constructed Wetlands Project (M.S. thesis) – Kent Co., DE
Surveyed the amphibian, avian, fish, aquatic macroinvertebrate, and vegetative communities of 20 created wetlands to determine the effects of construction techniques and surrounding land use on wetland biodiversity, 2004-2006.
